In this crazy world we live in, it seems that celebrities are always giving us something controversial to talk about. However, one thing I think people need to stop giving them a hard time about is adopting children from overseas because, let’s face it, that is a pretty awesome thing to do.
And you know what? There are actually quite a few celebrities who have done this very noble thing. More than you might realise…
1. Madonna and Guy Ritchie.
Mother to two adopted children from Malawi, David Banda and Mercy James, Madonna has been the subject of endless scrutiny concerning ‘white people taking children out of Africa’. I would strongly suspect that the lucky children she has adopted might feel differently.

2. Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.
In amongst endless speculation about Tom Cruise’s infamous religion ‘Scientology’, it seems that his adopted children Connor and Isabella (with ex-wife Nicole Kidman) lead relatively normal lives. So much so, that the press are hardly able to track down anything about them apart from the odd Instagram photo here and there.

3. Charlize Theron.
Mother to beautiful 3-year old adopted Jackson, Charlize has recently hit the headlines because she is in the process of adopting a second child named August. This all comes in the wake of her break-up with Sean Penn but she has certainly proved all along she didn’t need a man to survive.

4. Sandra Bullock.
After going through what can only be described as ‘the divorce from hell’ from ex-husband Jesse James in 2010, Sandra Bullock found solace in her beautiful son Louis, who she’d previously kept secret. She is now apparently looking into adopting a second time.

5. Hugh Jackman and Deborra Lee-Furness.
Not only do Hugh Jackman and his wife of twenty years, Deborra, have two adopted children, Oscar and Ava, but they are also tireless campaigners for the eased streaming of international adoptions. They really are the perfect couple!

6. Katherine Heigl and Josh Kelley.
Another advocate for adoption, Katherine Heigl and husband Josh Kelley are proud parents to Naleigh and Adelaide, whom they brought home to live with them from South Korea in 2009 and 2012.

7. Steven Spielberg.
With a blended family of seven, with wife Kate Capshaw, including two adopted children, Theo and Mikaela, Steven is another celebrity fully prepared to speak out and raise awareness about the joys of adoption. The power couple even launched the ‘The Children’s Action Network’ in 1990 to raise awareness on the topic.

8. Emma Thompson.
One of the sweetest adoption stories in my opinion, Emma Thompson and husband Greg Wise adopted their son Tindyebwa after meeting him when he was sleeping rough on the streets of London, aged 16. Their relationship began by inviting him over for Christmas and the bond between them grew so much that they took the necessary steps to adopt him in 2003.

9. Ty Burrell.
Modern Family’s Ty Burrell is one of the lesser-known adoption advocates but nonetheless a very strong influence making regular statements in interviews about the beauty of it, stemming from his two adopted daughters Frances and Greta.

10. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
We certainly couldn’t write an article about adoption without including Brangelina, could we? The power couple are proud parents to three adopted children Maddox, 14, Pax, 11 and Zahara, 10. Along with their three biological children Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne which they later went on to have in 2006 and 2008 (a pair of them were twins in case you wondered). Now that is certainly a lot to remember isn’t it but from all the pictures they look like the happiest of families. We’d just love to be a fly on the wall when it comes to the bathroom queue in the mornings!
